Ashtabula County has been able to dodge the effects of a national court reporter shortage, but the profession remains in demand throughout the state and nationwide. The National Association of Court Reporters has found the demand for stenographers will outpace supply by about 5,500 in 2018. However, in Ashtabula County all the current court reporter positions in the common pleas court as well as Ashtabula and Conneaut municipal courts are filled, officials said. “It really hasn’t affected us because we have a court reporter on staff and we have a tape recorder,” said Tonja Amato, Ashtabula Municipal Court administrator.
